Every actor can point to certain shows, workshops, classes, etc. that took their craft up a notch. This app - seriously - is one of those for me. With it, I can be off book literally weeks before the deadline, which leave me more rehearsal time to develop my character and find those nuances that take a good performance to a great one. Because each line is recorded individually, it’s easy to rerecord a single line if you flub up, or change how you deliver it, or make those small changes to the script that come up during the rehearsal process (with the full and legal approval of the author and/or publisher, of course!) As for the new version, I love the improvements. Recording and editing is easier, and the new playback options are great. The developer, Peter Allday, is quickly responsive to inquiries, problems and suggestions (and many of the suggestions I’ve made are here in the new version). Sure, there are similar apps that are “free” - unless you actually want to add a script, that is. With LineLearner, you pay once up front and that’s it. This would be a bargain at twice the price.

This app is totally amazing! There are so many clever options to incorporate into the recording. Im over the moon! Im preparing to play Blanche Dubois and have to show up for my first rehearsal off-book. With Line Learner, Im now confident that Ill be able to make that happen. Im so grateful to the designers for creating a solution that really works. Ill continue to recommend it to all my actor friends! Thank You!!

The update is amazing. Ive had the app for a couple of years now and I love the new layout, with the different colors/names for each character and the pitch changer. Essential app.

I was a lead in one of my schools play, which meant I had to learn hundreds of lines. I couldnt have done that without the help of this app. Its very easy to maneuver and so worth the money! You can record your lines and others, and its unlimited. I highly recommend this to anyone in theater, if your learning a script, studying for a presentation, a speaking test, etc. Anything! Its truly a great app, and will surely stay on my phone for a while.

Below is my previous review and I have to say the improvements incorporated have blown me away. Everything I wanted to make this a 5 Star app (see below), and some that I didnt know I could use! I love the feature that shows you, in a colored timeline exactly what will playback... My line, their line, a pause, whatever! Brilliant. Also, the ability to have multiple characters, add stage directions, and even change the character icon or import the other actors photos is a nice touch. As a working actor, this is an indispensable tool when commuting to an audition. Helps me get in the right space and I can review lines in the car or with my headphones in the waiting room. WELL DONE Previous Review----- Ive tried Lines Please and Rehearsal and this beats those hands down. Im very techie and Ive put all three of these through their paces. This is my go-to app for any audition or scene. I love the features, the simple interface and it quickly helps me get off book. For the first time user, an instruction website or in-app help feature wouldve been handy. Understanding which combo of options in settings have to be off/on, in order to get it to playback how I wanted it to, took a bit of time to get used to. Also I agree with the other reviewer in that an option to review only my lines (without playing back any of the others lines) would be great. I too record a separate script for just my lines. Would also love to be able to control the speed of playback so I can listen quickly or slow down for those lines that are tongue twisters. Add those and it would become a five star app. Lastly, if there could be a way to record/edit titles/import scenes, on & from my PC/Mac (using an mp3 tag editor for example) for those large scripts that would be a time saving bonus to make it a six star app! :-) Highly recommend this app!

The app is easy to use & intuitive & most important I can save it to Dropbox so when I upgrade my phone I dont have to rerecord everything. Highly recommend!!!

I have been acting for 15 years, and have used everything from cassette recorders (remember those?) to digital recorders to the iPhone voice recorder to record and playback lines. Finally, someone has developed pretty close to the perfect tool for learning a role. Line Learner is exactly right, with all the features you could need - it made a difficult role that includes 250 cues and a 4-1/2 page monologue much easier to tackle. No, Im not a shill for the company, and I dont think Ive written a review in the App Store before. This app is simply that good.

I love this app. 3.99 well spent. I have a hard time memorizing and this app has been really helpful. It’s easy to use plus there is a lot of flexibility in the way it plays back lines.

They just added a sleep timer! Its like the developer is reading my mind! Awesome! Update v6.0 AMAZING UPDATE!!! This update is fantastic and delivers several feature requests Ive made over the last versions. Speed up and slow down playback is so great! Recap my lines only- genius! Stage direction addition! The new graphics interface is great! This has been my only line memorization and review tool since I bought it (and I bought several others, but this one works best for me). As a working actor, I use this every week. On my way to auditions in LA, on my way to class, or just to review lines while driving. I highly, highly, highly recommend it. I dont know how much it sells for currently, but I would easily pay $10 for this because of how much I use it and how much it helps me. Im not just gushing, read my reviews below of the previous versions. I contacted the developer a few times with bugs and feature requests, and he took care of them and has now added those features! I havent used it but a few times since the update, so I havent encountered any bugs yet, but rest assured if there are any and you let him know, this developer will fix it. Thats a good feeling. This is my most used app on the App Store besides Waze. I love it. Thank you! Update: v3.4 Now the app plays in the background, yay mutitasking! This is a great feature added!! Added a star to my review. Well worth it. Im not sure if the script erasing has been fixed. I would love to see a new feature of SPEEDING UP PLAYBACK for speed throughs to practice lines and cues fast. This would be great. Adjustable speed. I use this app many times a week. Almost every day. I love it. Its still not perfect, but its the best line memorizing app on the market that Ive tried or bought. Great app, really great for line learning and solo practice, but totally needs MULTITASKING!!! I use this a lot while driving to auditions and jobs in LA. I set it on loop, but have to go back and forth to my maps app, and playback shuts off when you exit the app. Please add multitasking so I can keep playback looping in the background! Thanks! Update: Also, you need to able to re-arrange the order of scenes in a simpler way. (This has been fixed:) Holy crap! I just deleted one of my productions from an audition, and the app mysteriously deleted several other productions!!! For no apparent reason! The productions are still listed, but all of the audio and lines are gone!!! Now it crashes anytime I try to open one of the messed up productions! "recover" option does not work!!! Sounds like a database issue.

There is a lot of versatility in this app. It works for whatever level of memorization you are on. It is pretty intuitive, but the guides are helpful too. Also, when I was having a problem, and I sent feedback, the response was with 24 hours, and he figured out a fix.

I was struggling nailing down the lines for my latest play and I bought this in desperation. It is an awesome tool to have. It has saved my butt and allowed me to run lines for the last several days without begging someone to read book for me for several hours. I am very appreciative. Ive also told every actor I know about this app because I think it is invaluable.

I have been using Line Learner for four years. I act in community theater and cant remember how I learned lines before this app! The app has evolved over the years in great ways. The ability to change pitches for your cast mates is wonderful. I have told everyone in my towns theater world about this app and now the local universitys theater department suggests it! Line Learner might even be wondering why their app is being downloaded so often out in the middle of nowhere!

Well worth the price, although you do have to sit and record yourself reading the entire script before you can really use it

Do you know Waiting for Godot? I was “fortunate” enough to be cast as Estragon. He has ~800 lines. This is, by far, the largest part I’ve ever had to memorize. The memorization was made possible with LineLearner. I could not have done this part without LineLearner. I used while waiting for kids, driving, walking, invaluable!

Every actor needs this app. Easy to use, functional, a godsend.

This is app is ok for basic line recording but certain parts of it dont even work like the pitch change that is advertised. Really frustrating when youre in a hurry :(
