Every actor can point to certain shows, workshops, classes, etc. that took their craft up a notch. This app - seriously - is one of those for me. With it, I can be off book literally weeks before the deadline, which leave me more rehearsal time to develop my character and find those nuances that take a good performance to a great one.
Because each line is recorded individually, it’s easy to rerecord a single line if you flub up, or change how you deliver it, or make those small changes to the script that come up during the rehearsal process (with the full and legal approval of the author and/or publisher, of course!)
As for the new version, I love the improvements. Recording and editing is easier, and the new playback options are great. The developer, Peter Allday, is quickly responsive to inquiries, problems and suggestions (and many of the suggestions I’ve made are here in the new version).
Sure, there are similar apps that are “free” - unless you actually want to add a script, that is. With LineLearner, you pay once up front and that’s it. This would be a bargain at twice the price.
